Strengthening connections between people and places to create a welcoming destination for all.

Art overview
Art is part of the transformation of Calgary’s Culture + Entertainment District. It helps shape public spaces that reflect Calgary’s identity and brings people together. Curatorial team LeuWebb Projects and Heavy are working with the Scotia Place Project Committee to develop dynamic art at Scotia Place, Alberta’s newest premier sports and entertainment venue.

Four new artworks will be added to the exterior plazas and gathering areas around Scotia Place. These pieces will share local stories and reflect the cultures connected to this place.

Selection process and timeline
In spring 2025, project art outreach for the Scotia Place project included in‑person and virtual workshops and a public survey. Please read the What We Heard summary for more details.

LeuWebb Projects, the Scotia Place Art Manager, led the public outreach process. Heavy, as the Scotia Place Art Construction Manager, is responsible for delivering and carrying out the art projects.




Many Chief Consulting facilitated engagement with the project’s Indigenous Advisory Committee, whose guidance helped shape the direction of the two Indigenous artworks being incorporated into the project. The committee included members from Treaty 7 Nations, the Métis Nation of Alberta, and Calgary’s urban Indigenous community.

The project also includes a mentorship initiative for emerging local artists, developed by LeuWebb Projects in collaboration with Calgary Arts Development.

The artworks will help create a welcoming arrival experience when the facility opens in 2027. The project also supports Indigenous, established and emerging artists and offers opportunities for people to experience art on site.
