Help Shape Public Art in Calgary!
Public Art at Scotia Place
Curatorial team LeuWebb Projects and Heavy are working with the Scotia Place Project Committee to develop dynamic public art at Scotia Place, Alberta’s newest premier sports and entertainment venue. This landmark facility will play a key role in the transformation of Calgary’s downtown, the emerging Culture + Entertainment District, and its surrounding spaces.
What is public art and why is it important?
Public art is artwork created for public spaces, intended to be accessible to everyone. It can take many forms, including sculptures, murals, performances, and digital installations, often reflecting the cultures and identities of communities. At its best, public art enhances the visual and emotional landscape of cities, fostering a sense of place and belonging. It can spark dialogue, inspire creativity and address social or historical themes, making art a shared experience.
How will your feedback be used?
We want your input to help shape art that reflects the values, stories, and aspirations of the people who live, work, and gather here. Your feedback will help guide artists in creating works of art that speak to the unique qualities of this special place.
Three ways to get involved:
1) Take our survey
Your feedback will help define the themes that guide the creation of new public art at Scotia Place.

We are inviting artists, creative professionals, community members, and residents of Calgary and members of the Treaty 7 Nations, Metis Nation, and the Urban Indigenous Community to join our Public Art Selection Committees to help evaluate and select public art projects for Scotia Place. One committee will draw from members of the Treaty 7 Nations, Metis Nation, and the Urban Indigenous Community to review two Indigenous-focused art opportunities, and a second committee will review two additional art opportunities. Your voice and expertise will help shape meaningful and inspiring public art for this transformative space!
