The Blow Up
Toronto, ON

‘The Blow Up’ was an interactive exploration of the ever-evolving development, and obsolescence, of our communication technologies. Repurposing over a dozen discarded cellular telephones, video camcorders, and digital cameras, the installation featured an analogue sequence of digital devices to create an expanded, three-dimensional photo booth that spoke to our need for continuous image reproduction, complicating our perception of our original selves. The devices surrounded participants in a continually refracting, retrospectively real-time interactive space of hazy pixels and low-resolution glow.
